How to unlock the exclusive access audio mode

Exclusive DAC access, or Exclusive audio access mode, to the audio output, is an essential requirement for providing high-quality playback.

Unlocking exclusive access to your device in Audirvāna

This access allows Audirvāna to control the resolution sent to the audio output by preventing other applications from accessing it.

Otherwise, the operating system audio mixer mixes the different audio signals into a stereo low-resolution stream.

Note: This is the reason why you cannot hear the sound of zoom meeting, or a Youtube video while you are playing music with Audirvāna. You have to unlock the audio output to do so.

In this article:

Activation of Exclusive Access

The activation of the exclusive access audio mode is automatic each time you start playing music with Audirvāna.

As you start playing, a popup message informs you of the activation and asks for confirmation.

You will then see the confirmation of this lock by looking at the lock icon at the bottom right side of Audirvāna, next to the speaker icon:

Deactivation of Exclusive Access

As for the activation, the deactivation is simple: click on the lock icon at the bottom right side of Audirvāna. It will immediately stop playback and liberate the audio output.

Note: If you are a MacOS user, you can partialy disable the Exclusive access mode by going in your device settings(please read this article to know more how to do this). You will find there this button if it's possible to disable partially Exclusic Access.

Disabling this option will play the sound of your youtube video at the same time as your playing track in Audirvāna.
